One of the first questions customers ask is "how much will my blinds cost?". Because every blind we make is cut to your exact window, the honest answer is that it depends. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
1. The type of blind
Different blinds use different materials and take different amounts of work to make.
- Roller blinds are usually the most affordable made-to-measure option, and we make them in our own Takanini workshop.
- Dual (day and night) rollers put a sunscreen and a blockout blind on the same window, so they cost more than a single roller.
- Venetian blinds come in PVC or wood. Wood generally costs more than PVC.
- Honeycomb blinds are a premium option because of their insulating cell structure.
- Shutters are the biggest investment, and also the longest lasting.
2. The size and number of windows
Bigger windows need more fabric and stronger components. A whole-house order is often better value per window than a single blind, so it is worth quoting every room at once.
3. The fabric
Sunscreen, light-filtering, blockout and thermal fabrics are all priced differently. Thermal and blockout fabrics usually cost more than basic light-filtering ones, but they help keep rooms warmer in winter and darker at night.
4. Motors and smart control
Motorised blinds cost more than chain or cord blinds, but they make high, wide or hard-to-reach windows much easier to use. Our motors can be paired with Alexa or Siri.
5. Tricky windows
Skylights, bay windows, very tall windows and odd shapes take extra measuring and special parts. See our skylight blinds.
6. Measuring and installation
A professional measure means your blinds fit the first time. In Auckland we offer a free measure and quote, and our team installs everything. Every blind comes with child safety locks fitted as standard.
How to get good value
- Quote the whole house at once.
- Use premium fabrics where they matter most, such as blockout in bedrooms and thermal on cold, south-facing windows.
- Ask about current specials before you order.
- Check the warranty. Our roller blind fabric has a 5 to 10 year manufacturing warranty depending on the fabric, and other blinds and motors have 3 years.
